This, to me, always felt like a symptom of the YouTube algorithm at work. A lot of people feel like Medium is "YouTube" for writers -- and in a way, I guess it is -- but that doesn't necessarily mean that the same rules apply. Instead of "thanks for watching, remember to smash that like button and subscribe!" it's "thanks for reading. Clap and share!"

It's weird because it just feels a bit more desperate here than it does on YouTube, even though its essentially the same thing.
