I Don’t Give a Fuck About How Much Money You Made Last Month

It’s not inspirational; you’re just boosting your ego

When I started writing on this platform, I devoured every tidbit of information I could on how to make money writing. Ultimately, the only piece of advice you need is, “Write good stuff.”

Because of this information binge, I keep getting recommended articles on business, marketing, and finances; frankly, I don’t care about any of that. But my (least) favorite of these articles are the “How I Earned $$$ Last Month From Freelance Writing” pieces.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad these writers are making a living. A good living in some cases. If I were friends with them, I’d go out for a celebratory drink and then jokingly say, “This round’s on you, then?”

I’m not talking about guides, either.

For example, “How to Make $30/hour as a Freelance Editor,” with step-by-step instructions and/or applicable advice and resources? Totally fine—thank you, in fact. Giving other writers advice on improving their writing or earning a livable income is endlessly helpful.

What irks me—what really grinds my gears—is when an article lacks that advice. A writer, for example, who writes a viral article and has a wave of clients rushing to them for work…
